Dow launched its Powerhouse Solar Shingles in October 2011 in limited quantities to Colorado homebuilders and has now named its first three authorized dealers. The electricity-creating roofing shingle technology is now offered by three Colorado roofing contractors: Academy Roofing, B&M Roofing of Colorado Inc., and D&D Roofing.
The solar shingle roofing system protects the home from the elements like a standard roofing shingle while turning sunlight into electricity to power the home.
The shingles are made by Dow in a small-scale manufacturing facility near its headquarters in Midland, MI. A new large-scale manufacturing facility for the solar shingle is under construction in Midland and is expected to create up to 1275 jobs by 2015.
