The Freedom, from luxury appliance maker Thermador, is the first full-surface induction cooktop with a natural-mapping user interface that recognizes cookware size, shape, and position and delivers heat to match the cookware. The cooktop is built with 48 individual 3-inch induction heating elements below the cooking surface to make this possible.

Thermador was in Las Vegas on Sunday, January 8, in advance of the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show to unveil the Freedom at CES Unveiled: The Official Press Event. The new cooktop will also be demonstrated during the CES, which runs from Jan 10-13, 2012.

“Thermador’s industrial designers and engineers imagined what was possible and they’ve delivered the world’s first induction appliance to eliminate conventional burners and instead offer one limitless cooking surface with an intuitive touchscreen interface," said Zach Elkin, Thermador director of brand marketing.

100 Fridge Innovations

Thermador introduced 100+ innovations/technical improvements to its 2012 Freedom refrigeration appliances. The company said it reengineered much of the line to keep pace with culinary enthusiasts. Product improvements include:
• ultra-bright LED theater sidewall lighting with automatic dimming
• the first full-width, flexible ice drawer with 11.45-pound capacity
• all stainless steel exterior ice and water dispensers
• full-extension drawers and oversized freezer baskets
• full-extension wine racks with exotic hardwoods
• 3-D panel adjustability for the ultra-flush installation

"One of the key technical improvements to the new Freedom line is the new 3-D panel adjustability feature that offers the most flexibility in the market," adds Thomas Staebler, senior product manager of Thermador. "It allows the refrigerator panel to be adjusted horizontally, vertically, forward and backward for an ultra-flush installation and seamless look in the kitchen."

The entire Freedom Collection line is Energy Star qualified.

"The 2012 Freedom Collection represents a substantial commitment by Thermador from a product development and manufacturing standpoint, with the goal of becoming the luxury appliance category leader in refrigeration," said Zach Elkin, director of brand marketing for Thermador.

Thermador is part of BSH Home Appliances Corp., which is the North American business of German appliance giant BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH.
