AHRI Helps Prep Energy Bill for Last-Minute Vote

With Congress in the final weeks its current session and complex energy legislation unlikely to be passed before years' end, the Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) and its allies on Capitol Hill are assembling a focused bill that they hope will see passage in the waning weeks of 2011.
AHRI's top legislative priority is INCAAA. Recognizing that its complexity and length make it unlikely to pass in the last few weeks of 2011, the new bill is being assembled to include some elements of INCAAA, including:
• Minimum energy efficiency standards for certain commercial refrigeration products (Service over the Counter Products).
• Changes to the DOE water heater test procedure.
• Building code provisions contained in AHRI’s regional standards consensus agreement.
AHRI hopes the House and Senate will consider the more-focused bill under expedited procedures in the last few weeks of the session.
