The U.S.–based Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) updated its overall quarter-over-quarter sales growth to 3.5%. SIA said the sales growth was previously misstated at 2.1%.

SIA also corrected the misstated growth rates for the Japan region. It updated quarter-over-quarter growth to 14.9% (it was previously misstated as 13.7%). All other global sales growth calculations remain unchanged.

September 2011 worldwide semiconductor sales were $25.8 billion, up 2.7% from August sales of $25.1 billion. SIA's monthly sales numbers represent a three-month moving average.

The 14.9% quarter-over-quarter increase in Japan was driven earthquake recovery efforts. The increase was also helped by automotive and demand for handheld devices such as smart phones and tablets.
