Dow Chemical (China) Company Ltd. and appliance OEM Haier Group will establish the Haier-Dow Global Joint Innovation Laboratory in the Haier Group Technique R&D Center in Qingdao, China. The lab will accelerate collaboration between the two companies and will manage and perform their joint research and development projects.

The facility will leverage Dow’s technical platforms and global research capabilities as well as Haier’s insight into industry trends and consumer needs. Projects and activities to be conducted in the joint lab will be identified and evaluated by the Strategic Cooperation Committee established under a Memorandum of Understanding on Global Technical Partnership, signed by the two companies in September 2010.

"We have a proven track record of successful collaboration with Haier,” said Dr. Weiguang Yao, Chief Technology Officer, Dow Asia Pacific. “We are firmly committed to offering our innovation expertise to support Haier’s endeavors in providing sustainable, innovative and differentiated solutions in home appliance and consumer electronics products in China and around the globe.”

Previous Dow-Haier partnership developments included Haier’s adoption of Dow’s patented Pascal insulation technology for energy-saving household refrigerators and the joint introduction of the Magic-Pallets Washing technology for reduction of water and detergent consumption.
