World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 125 million metric tons (mmt) in August 2011, up 9.8% over August 2010.
Crude steel production for August 2011 by country:
• China: production was 58.8 mmt, up 13.8% compared to August 2010
• Japan: 8.9 mmt, up 0.1% compared to August 2010
• South Korea: 5.5 mmt, up 19.3%
• Germany: 3.6 mmt, up 5.3% over August 2010
• Italy: 1.4 mmt, up 25.6%
• Spain: 1.1 mmt, down 7.6% from August 2010
• France: 1.0 mmt, up 19.7%
• Turkey: 2.8 mmt, up 7.8%
• United States: 7.5 mmt, up 13.8%
• Brazil: 3.0 mmt, up 1.5%
The world crude steel capacity utilization ratio of the 64 countries in August 2011 was 77.5%, down 2.1% than in July 2011 and up 3.5% from August 2010.
