tesa tape, supplier of specialty adhesive tapes for the appliance industry, is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the production of the first tesa-branded products.
The roots of the product line go back to the first adhesive medical bandages developed by Paul Beiersdorf in 1882 in Germany. Beiersdorf patented his adhesive technology and founded Beiersdorf Company. The company held an employee contest to suggest brand names for the adhesive tape line. A company secretary, Elsa Tesmer, combined some letters from her own name to come up with the name "tesa." The first tesa-branded adhesive tapes hit the market in 1936.
Beiersdorf spun off its tape division in 2001 to form tesa AG, which later became part of the Societas Europaea (SE), a European company, and the name changed to tesa SE.
