Toshiba Corp. (Tokyo) said it will supply free residential photovoltaic power generation systems and energy-efficient home appliances for temporary and newly constructed public housing that the government will provide for victims of the 2011 Pacific Ocean Earthquake off the Tohoku Region of Japan.
Toshiba will equip 100 households with:
• photovoltaic systems
• rechargeable batteries
• LCD TVs
• rice cookers
• LED lighting
Use of the photovoltaic systems in combination with rechargeable batteries and with energy-saving home appliances will reduce demands made on the electricity grid by households where it is installed, which the producer said is an important consideration during the period of stringent control of electric power consumption that is expected to continue over the coming weeks and months.
