The National Kitchen & Bath Association's (NKBA) released its Top 11 Kitchen & Bath Trends for 2011, including several trends in appliance categories.

FRENCH DOOR REFRIGERATORS. NKBA said the French door refrigerator strengthened its position as the type specified most often by kitchen designers. French door fridges were seen as much more popular than the next highest-rank configurations: bottom-freezer models and side-by-side models.

COLD DRAWERS. Among smaller units, refrigerator and freezer drawers are used by a third of designers, about the same amount as undercounter wine refrigerators, which the association has seen on the decline.

INDUCTION CLOSES THE GAP. Induction cooktops are closing the gap with gas and electric models.
• Gas cooktops are specified by about two-thirds of kitchen designers, down from about three-quarters in 2010.
• Electric cooktop popularity is up slightly, being used by about 40% of designers.
• Induction cooktops, used by about a quarter of designers in 2010, are used by more than a third of designers in 2011.

NKBA will stage the 48th annual Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas, April 26 to 28, 2011, with 500 companies exhibiting appliances and other products for the kitchen and bath industry.
