Scotsman Ice Systems (Vernon Hills, IL, U.S.) received the 2011 Energy Star Award for Excellence in energy-efficient product design. Scotsman, maker of commercial ice makers, will be presented with the award during the 2011 Energy Star awards ceremony on April 12 in Washington, DC.

“Energy efficiency is not only good for the environment, but it also improves the bottom line for our end users,” said Mark McClanahan, Scotsman Ice president. He estimated that the company’s Prodigy Energy Star-qualified ice machine could help customers realize an average 20% energy savings, translating to a savings of approximately $710 per year.

Scotsman has more than 50 Energy Star-rated ice machine models, and 25 of those models are also meet the maximum Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) Tier 3-rated performance criteria, which exceeds the current Energy Star standard.

Scotsman said its nugget and flake ice machines use up to 50% less water and 15% less energy than cube ice machines due to a more efficient ice-making process.
