The Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) gave an Award for Excellence in Consistent TPM Commitment to Arctic S.A., Arçelik Group's cooling appliances plant in Romania. The plant passed a two-stage inspection by independent auditors to become the first company in Romania to earn the Total Productive Maintenance/Management award. Arctic S.A. Production Manager Marian Serban received the award from JIPM authorities at a ceremony in Kyoto on March 9, 2011. It marks the 12th Arçelik Group TPM Award from JIPM, awarded for plants within Turkey, where the company is headquartered, and abroad. The main criteria of the JIPM TPM designation include having all employees participated in improvement works using TPM techniques, increase productivity by reducing losses, decrease costs, and reach certain production goals. The Arctic Cooling Appliances Plant is in Gaesti, Romania, 70 km from Bucharest. The plant has the capacity to produce 1.5 million refrigerators and top loading freezers annually. It exports more than 70% of its production to nearly 50 countries.
