Sears Holdings Corp., based in the Illinois city of Hoffman Estates, applauded a new law changing Internet retailing tax law in the state.

The "E-fairness Law" requires out-of-state businesses to begin collecting and remitting sales tax in Illinois. Sears said brick-and-mortar retailers are put at an unfair competitive disadvantage when Internet retailers do not have to pay sales tax.

Sears said Amazon.com is threatening to leave states and terminate relationships with all its affiliates rather than comply with the new law. Sears said it will welcome these affiliates to the Sears Affiliate
Team.

Sears is one of the biggest appliance retailers in the United States.
