Global crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association was 119 million metric tons (mmt) in January 2011. This is 5.3% higher than January 2010.
Worldsteel estimated that, in January 2011:
• China’s crude steel production was 52.8 mmt, up 0.5% from January 2010.
• Japan produced 9.7 mmt, up 10.7% from January 2010.
• South Korea produced 5.6 mmt, up 24.2%.
• Germany produced 3.7 mmt, up 4.4%.
• Italy produced 2.1 mmt, up 10.3%.
• Spain produced 1.4 mmt, up 4.1%.
• Turkey produced 2.7 mmt, up 33.4%.
• The United States produced 6.8 mmt, up 9.4%.
• Brazil produced 2.8 mmt, up 3.8% .
The world crude steel capacity utilization ratio of the 64 countries in January 2011 was 75.6%, up from 73.3% in December 2010 and 0.4% lower than January 2010.
