Turkish appliance producer Arçelik A.Ş. has published a 2008-2009 Sustainability Report, and prepared it to meet the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, making it the first such report in the sector in Turkey.
The company said the report was prepared at the "C-application level" and approved by the GRI Secretariat.
"Our goal is to continuously advance our environmental, social, governance and financial performance," said Levent Çakıroğlu, CEO of Arçelik A.Ş. and president of Koç Holding A.Ş. Durable Goods Group.
It is the second Sustainability Report published by Arçelik., which defined its vision in 2009 as "Respects the Globe, Respected Globally." The sustainability approach is intended to complement and facilitate the company vision around five primary issues of: corporate governance, environmental responsibilities, social responsibilities, human resources management, and the company role in the community.
Recently Arçelik became one of three finalists in the “Management” category of the “European Business Awards for the Environment 2010 – European Program.” It was the first time a company from a non-EU member country was acknowledged at this level by the EU.
Arçelik said it has achieved an "A" or better energy efficiency classification on 100% of its 2009 washing machines and dishwashers, 79% of its 2009 refrigerators, and 40% of its 2009 ovens.
