China's Gree Electric Appliances may start manufacturing air-conditioners in the United States, according to Bloomberg News article. Gree is said to be considering the move to help it reach its goals of becoming more of a global competitor, which means competing with HVAC giant Carrier.
In a Bloomberg interview of Dong Mingzhu, president of Gree, Mingzhu said many Chinese companies were afraid of bringing manufacturing to the United States, but Gree thinks it's a possibility "worth exploring" and the article said the company could have a plant in the U.S. within three years. The article said Gree's U.S. sales have grown about 20% annually in for the past five years.
