Refrigeration systems technology supplier Tecumseh Products Company purchased a new, 48,000 sq ft building in Ann Arbor, MI, and plans to open a Technology Center there by the summer of 2011.

The Ann Arbor lab will join certified Tecumseh labs in France, Brazil, and India to form the backbone of a global engineering strategy with increased focus on research, development, and applications. Much of the current lab in Tecumseh, MI will be relocated to the Ann Arbor facility and its capabilities significantly upgraded.

"It allows us to strategically focus on the changing needs of the refrigeration and air conditioning
marketplace, developing the most energy efficient and eco-friendly products possible,” said Jim Wainright, president and
CEO.

Wainright said the new lab will meet Energy Star accreditation qualifications and will be UL and ISO certified. It will enable hydrocarbon development and testing and will have enhanced environmental simulation facilities. The company will also pursue LEED certification on the lab facility build-out.

Tecumseh Products Company is a global manufacturer of hermetic compressors, condensing units, and systems for use in residential and commercial refrigeration and air-conditioning applications.
