German-based appliance maker Miele released the results of a study that shows their multi-filter vacuums are more effective at safeguarding indoor air quality than leading bagless vacuums. The study said Miele vacuums capture and retain 99.99% of harmful pollutants, putting them on-average 21-times better than the best HEPA-filtered bagless rival.
Miele commissioned research laboratory Interbasic Resources (IBR) to conduct an American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) emissions test that included the Miele vacuum and four HEPA-filtered brands: Dyson, SEBO, Riccar, and Simplicity.
The test involved placing a device on the vent of the vacuum that measures dust particles emitted from each machine while ingesting ASTM-specified material that mocks typical household dirt, dust, and allergens.
Miele vacuums, with Sealed System engineering and equipped with a unique AirClean Filter-bag as well as a certified HEPA filter, had significantly lower particle emissions than the other models.
IBR motor emission test results showed these emissions of 0.3-0.5 micron particles:
• Miele S 5281: 8,278 particles per minute
• Dyson DC25: 175,928 particles per minute
• Simplicity G9.2: 2,241,984 particles per minute
• Riccar RAD.8: 3,640,530 particles per minute
• SEBO X4: 14,570,030 particles per minute
