James L. Cigler joined the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers as the Director of Product Certification and Verification.

Cigler will oversee AHAM’s ongoing and new appliance rating certification and verification programs. The association currently administers performance certification and verification programs for room air-conditioners, dehumidifiers, and room air cleaners and is developing programs for refrigerators and freezers as well as portable air-conditioners.

“Jim comes to AHAM with a wealth of experience in certification and conformity assessment programs as well as North American and global standards,” said the association's president, Joseph M. McGuire. “Jim comes to AHAM at a time when the appliance industry is looking for AHAM to add new verification testing programs to our portfolio.”

Previously, Cigler coordinated national and international conformity assessment activities for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) as Manager of Conformity Assessment Programs. Prior to NEMA he served as Chief of the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and held engineering support and management responsibilities at several levels at the Department of the Navy. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Old Dominion University and a M.S. in Technical Management from Johns Hopkins University.
