Sales in electronics and appliance stores were $8.535 billion in April 2010, down slightly from $8.565 billion in March 2010 but up from the $8.225 billion in April 2009, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The U.S. Census Bureau's advance estimates of overall U.S. retail and food services sales for April were $366.4 billion, up 0.4% from the previous month and 8.8% above April 2009. Total sales for the February through April 2010 period were up 7.3% from the same period a year ago.
The advance estimates are based on a subsample of the Census Bureau's full retail and food services sample.
The advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales are adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes.
