Helen of Troy Dominates Salon Appliances Market

The U.S. salon appliances market grew 6.6% in 2009, more than three times the 1.5% growth rate of the overall salon industry, according to the 2009 Professional Salon Industry Appliances Market study from Professional Consultants & Resources, the U.S.

The market research firm reports says that 2009 was the second year of salon appliance growth even as softgoods growth has stalled, enticing many softgoods companies to move into hardgoods. The result is robust competition among established appliance marketers and new entrants into the marketplace.

The report ranks the top 10 professional salon appliance companies by dollar volume:
1 - Helen of Troy (all brands, including Revlon, Vidal Sassoon, Wigo, etc.)
2 - Conair (all brands, including BaByliss, ConAir Pro, Jilbere de Paris, etc.)
3 - Chi (Farouk Systems)
4 - Bio Ionic
5 - Paul Mitchell
6 - T-3 Micro Inc.
7 - Cricket
8 - FHI Heat
9 - HAI Elite
10 – GHD

The report says curling and flat Irons grew 7.6% in 2009, blow dryers grew 1.8%, and clippers/trimmers at 12.3%.
