Most Canadian HVAC Sectors Show Strong 1Q Gains

Canada's residential HVAC industry saw gains in shipment numbers in most sectors in the first quarter of 2010, with residential furnace shipments up 63%, according to figures from the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada.
HRAI's first quarter figures:
• Residential furnace shipments increased 63% from 49,340 in the first quarter of 2009 to 80,313 in the first quarter of 2010.
• Chiller bookings increased 49% from 178 in the first quarter of 2008 to 265 in the first quarter 2010.
• Residential air-conditioning shipments increased 38% from 26,333 in the first quarter of 2009 to 36,454 in the first quarter of 2010.
• Unit heater shipments increased 28% from 7,734 in the first quarter of 2009 to 9,903 in the first quarter of 2010.
• Commercial air-conditioning shipments increased 7%, from 6,767 in the first quarter of 2009 to 7,257 in the first quarter of 2010.
• Ductless split system shipments decreased by 21% from 15,362 in the first quarter of 2009 to 12,131 in the first quarter of 2010.
