Mitsubishi Electric Corporation launched the PV Series of intelligent power modules (IPM), primarily for use in residential photovoltaic (PV) inverters. The six models can also be used in inverters for fuel cell systems. Each measures 90 mm × 50 mm, contributing greatly to PV inverter miniaturization. The RoHS-compliant units begin shipping in May.

Mitsubishi noted that demand for home solar power generation is increasing and inverters - converting dc electricity generated from solar cells into ac electricity for residential use - are an essential part of the residential solar power system. Inverters for residential solar systems are typically installed indoors, so it is important that they be as small as possible.
