The American Society for Quality (ASQ) has created the Spencer Hutchens Jr. Social Responsibility Medal in honor of Spencer Hutchens has, a senior vice president at Intertek, a provider of quality assurance and testing solutions.
According to ASQ, Hutchens has dedicated his personal and professional life to principles of accountability towards both society and the environment. “This medal will showcase how the recipient's results have led to societal change,” said Robert Saco, chair of ASQ. “Medal recipients will be instrumental in making the difference within today's—and tomorrow's—socially responsible world.”
"I am proud and humbled to have this medal named in my honor," said Hutchens. "My approach to social responsibility is defined by the following three pillars: (1) putting service above self and striving for excellence in all we do, (2) recognizing the necessity of diversity as a strength that helps align organizations with customers, and (3) integrity that defines ourselves as human beings--authentic beings who are as consistent as possible in the words we use along with the things we do.”
Hutchens has received numerous awards and honors, including both the Defense Logistics Agency Meritorious Service Award and the Defense Logistics Award--the highest award given by the Department of Defense. He also served as the president of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Consortium and is an academician for the International Academy for Quality. He has authored many publications and has become an internationally renowned speaker in the area of quality control development and improvement.
The Spencer Hutchens Jr. Social Responsibility Medal will be presented annually at ASQ’s World Conference for Quality and Improvement, beginning at this year’s event to be held May 24026 in St. Louis, MO, U.S. The medal will revere the achievements of an individual whom reflects outstanding leadership as an individual, business leader, and cause advocate for social responsibility—primarily focusing on the marketplace, environment, workplace, and community.
