August Steel Shipments up 5.7 from July Oct 19, 2009 |

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of August 2009, U.S. steel mills shipped 5,570,000 net tons, a 5.7% increase from the 5,271,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, July 2009, and a 37.1% decrease from the 8,860,000 net tons shipped in August 2008.
A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip, up 2.8%; hot rolled sheet, up 6.8%; and cold rolled sheet, up 9.9%.
