The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) has received approval of the ANSI/AHAM PAC-1-2009, performance standard for Portable Air Conditioners from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The approval establishes the ANSI/AHAM PAC-1-2009 as the American National Standard.

The standard establishes a procedure for measuring specified characteristics of portable air-conditioners. AHAM says the standard methods and the recommended levels of performance, where they appear, are intended to provide a means to compare and evaluate different brands and models of portable air-conditioners regarding characteristics significant to product use. The standard is equivalent to the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standard, CSA C370 Cooling Performance Standard for portable air-conditioners.

Also, AHAM has published a revised technical standard for Food Waste Disposers, known as AHAM FWD-1-2009. The standard establishes a uniform, repeatable procedure or standard method for measuring specified product characteristics of household food waste disposers.
