Dell Inc.'s second-quarter profit fel 23%, while its shipments of consumer PCs increased 17% over last year. Yet, it said that revenue in that category was down 9% to US$2.9 billion. Dell's sales to corporations fell 32% from last year to $3.3 billion.
Michael Dell, the company's CEO, said in a statement that Dell expects better revenue in the second half of the year compared to the first half, if current demand trends continue.
Dell's profit was $472 million, in the three months ended July 31, compared with profit of $616 million in the year-ago period. Sales fell 22% to $12.8 billion.
