UL Employees Receive Industry Awards

Two Underwriters Laboratories were recognized with prestigious awards for their contributions to the industries they serve.

Bob James, senior staff engineer of UL's Regulatory Group, is the recipient of the 2009 Special Achievement Award by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards Council. James is recognized for outstanding service provided to the NFPA Standards Council in the development of codes and standards. James is a four-year veteran of UL and is an active participant in several NFPA committees. James serves as the editor of NFPA 1 - Uniform Fire Code, is a contributing member of various state fire associations and is a former member of the ICC fire code development committee.

Steve Corrado, the Primary Designated Engineer (PDE) for UL's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) sector, is the recipient of the 2009 Distinguished Service Award from ASTM's F23 Committee. The ASTM award recognizes Corrado for his ongoing contributions to a range of standards across several ASTM subcommittees including, chairing the task group for revision of the sweating hot plate test method and providing valuable perspective on how F23 standards are used in the field. Corrado is a 17-year veteran of UL and is an active participant of the ASTM F23 Committee. Corrado is a contributing member of the ASTM D13 Committee and numerous NFPA and National Institute of Justice (NIJ) committees.
