The washing machine market in Brazil grew 20% in the first half of 2008, compared to the first half of 2007, according to research firm GfK Retail and Technology. According to the firm, since the beginning of 2008, fully automatic washers have represented around 60% of the total market, with the highest share in February at 63%.
The market in Brazil for dishwashers, however, experienced a 3% decrease in sales for the same period. During the first six months of 2007, dishwashers sold with four washing programs increased by 4%, while machines with five washing programs decreased by 8%. In the first half of 2008, machines with seven programs represented 15% of the market in unit sales. The highest share—20%--was recorded in June 2008.
