Appliance maker Electrolux announced on Monday that it recently welcomed its 200,000th visitor to its online User Manual Database. The site, found on www.electrolux-ui.com, was launched in May 2002 and provides complete user instruction booklets for every appliance manufactured by the Group over the last ten years. In total, more than 70,000 manuals are currently available on the system in six European languages -- English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Swedish. Complete booklets for all of the brands under Electrolux Group are accessible, from AEG to Zanussi. Owners of Electrolux products who have misplaced their manual and need assistance can access the User Manual Database 24 hr a day, 7 days a week. The system was designed to save the consumer time, eliminating the need to be hanging on the end of a telephone line, Electrolux says. The database offers consumers with an immediate means of finding the information they need about their appliance be it a refrigerator, a washing machine, or a vacuum cleaner. Visitors can search the system by model denomination, the machine’s nine-digit Product Number Code (PNC), or by inputting an initial or final character of the appliance’s name. "Most of us learn the basics of our machines and then put the manual away. It is only when we want to perform a more complex task such as washing a silk dress, for example, that we need to refer to it again," says Walter Koch, senior vice president of Supply Chain & Logistics, After Sales Service & Spares. "And that is usually when the manual has gone missing. Rather than applying for a new printed hard copy that takes time to arrive, the Database allows consumers to find the answer they need directly. And with over 200,000 visitors to date, it has already proven its worth to our consumers," he adds. Additional research into the system’s user-friendliness revealed that the amount of positive search results has grown from 80 percent to 92 percent since May last year. Further, the number of unique visitors per month has grown by over 520 percent since it was launched, with more than 38,500 unique visitors in March.
