European Appliance Makers Implement Tax Discounts, Payment Plans to Spur Sales

Many European appliance companies launched promotional campaigns in February, hoping to overcome the economic stagnancy by increasing sales, according to a Hürriyet Daily News report.
According to the report, campaigns launched by appliance companies exclude private consumption tax, or ÖTV, and value added tax, or VAT, from prices. In addition, customers are given easier purchasing methods, including longer installment terms on credit cards.
For example, the report says, Arçelik is providing VAT and ÖTV discounts on its refrigerators and washing machines. Arçelik is also allowing customers to pay for their purchases in four installments, without interest. Beko is also offering the option to pay for an appliance in three installments.
Bosch is also implementing VAT and ÖTV discounts, including a campaign for credit card purchases. The credit card campaign enables a consumer to purchase a product at its cash price in five installments. For credit card companies that have singed a deal with Bosch, the company allows customers to pay in nine installments without interest.
Profilo is also using VAT and ÖTV discounts, in addition to allowing consumers to pay for an appliance in 36 installments, or to pay in 12 installments without a downpayment.
