Blu-ray Disc Recorders in Japan have surpassed a 50% market share for DVD Recorders in unit shipments, according to a GfK Retail and Technology Japan report.

In addition, says GfK, the average sales price has begun to come down. The firm says that the price will continue to fall in the build-up to Christmas and that the product may become "one-to-watch" during the winter sales.

GfK says that Blu-ray Disc Recorders are replacing DVD Recorders 1.5 times faster than DVD Recorders replaced VHS Recorders and that a principal reason for this is the increase in sales of Flat Panel TVs, which enable viewers to experience digital high-definition broadcasting.
