Spectrum Brands Inc. said its 4Q net loss widened from a year earlier due mainly to a large impairment charge. Spectrum posted a net loss of $492.6 million for the fiscal fourth quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with a net loss of $333 million a year earlier. The company's Remington-branded product reported a profit of 6.2% to $57.9 million, on a sales gain of 5.8% to $423.6 million. The company reported a 4Q jump in sales of Remington haircare products, which offset a 6% drop in sales of shaving products that the company attributed to a transition to new rotary-shaving models.
