Japanese Appliance Shipments up in First Half

Shipments of home appliances in Japan were up 4.9% in the April-September half, thanks in part to robust air conditioner sales. In the second half through March, however, the figure is expected to dip as personal spending declines amid the deepening economic gloom, the Japan Electrical Manufacturers' Association said.
