Sharp Electronics Corp. has been named a winner of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) “SmartWay Excellence Award” for the third consecutive year, in recognition of its leadership in conserving energy and lowering greenhouse gas emissions from its transportation and freight activities. Sharp is named a winner in the “Shipper” category for its commitment to environmental friendly practices and business operations. Sharp is the only organization in the category to win the award three years in a row.

Sharp Electronics was one of 27 companies, from among the SmartWay Transport Partnership’s more than 1000 members, to receive the distinction in 2008.

Through initiatives such as shipping 97% of its goods with SmartWay carriers, adopting no-idling policies, and increasing intra-modal shipping, Sharp has reduced its transportation environmental footprint. As of 2008, 90% of the carriers that Sharp works with are members of the SmartWay Transportation Partnership.
