IBM's Q1 Earnings Increase 26%

Quarter one profits at IBM Corp. jumped 26%, the company said. IBM earned US$2.32 billion, or $1.65 per share, compared to  $1.84 billion, or $1.21 per share, in the same period of 2007. Revenue rose 11% to $24.5 billion. One particular bright spot was IBM's improved performance in its home market, which generates 35% of its revenue. U.S. sales increased 6%. Software revenue was up 14% to $4.8 billion; hardware revenue fell 7% to $4.2 billion.
