Chief Executive Ed Coleman of Gateway Inc. will leave his position at the end of January.

Rudi Schmidleithner has assumed responsibility for Gateway, planning to fold Coleman's position and title into his current status as president of Acer Pan America. Schmidleithner will take responsibility for completing the post-merger integration of Gateway into Acer.

Coleman became CEO at Gateway in 2006, taking over from Rick Snyder, who had been serving on an interim basis since Wayne Inouye resigned. Before joining Gateway, Coleman was senior vice president and president, Enterprise Computing Solutions, for Arrow Electronics Inc, and chairman, president, and CEO of CompuCom Systems, Inc.
