Scotsman Ice Systems Europe, producer of ice makers for residential and commercial use, said today it will include AgION® antimicrobial protection in the manufacturing of components used in the ice makers.

The Milan, Italy-based European business joins Scotsman's U.S. corporate business in providing customers this antimicrobial technology.  Scotsman has distributors and service agents in more than 100 countries. According to company data, there are over a million Scotsman ice makers in use worldwide.

"By incorporating AgION’s antimicrobial technology in the coatings of the parts they use to build their ice making machines, they are assuring their customers that they are protected against potentially dangerous contaminants," said Ginger Merritt, vice president of worldwide marketing for AgION Technologies, Inc. (Wakefield, Massachusetts, U.S.)

The antimicrobial technology is designed to be a non-toxic silver ion delivery system that inhibits reproduction, interrupts metabolism, and disrupts cell wall function of many molds, yeasts, and bacteria. Since the technology is “built-in” to the product, it is said to continue to protect the surface from damaging and odor-causing microbes for the life of the product.
