Sharp Closes Taiwan Notebook R&D Affiliate Aug 27, 2007 |

Sharp recently closed its Taipei-based affiliate Sharp Technology (Taiwan) (STT), which focused on notebook PC research and development and handset testing.
Apart from STT, Sharp has three other affiliated companies in Taiwan. Sharp Electronics (Taiwan) (SET), based in Kaohsiung, manufactures and sells electronic components while Taipei-based Sharp Electronic Components (Taiwan) (SECT) sells electronic components. Sharp Corporation Taiwan (SCOT), which is also located in Taipei, is the sales center for Sharp's consumer electronics.
After closing STT, Sharp will shift its handset testing business in Taiwan to SECT. It will not leave the PC market, and it will still cooperate with Taiwan-based companies to produce PCs.
