Driving the worldwide acceptance of high-speed networking over powerlines, the HomePlug(R) Powerline Alliance announced that LG Electronics Korea has joined the HomePlug Implementers’ Forum Board of Directors. LG brings a strong background in next generation home electronics and appliances to HomePlug’s diverse leadership group. With the addition of LG, the HomePlug Powerline Alliance continues to align the world’s leading consumer electronics manufacturers around the global HomePlug family of standards.

The addition of LG to the Alliance’s leadership team is expected to have a tremendous impact on HomePlug’s vision for the digital home, as the demand for robust connectivity amongst consumer appliances continues to expand. By participating in the HomePlug Implementers’ Forum Board of Directors, LG has the opportunity to bring their expertise to the HomePlug BOD.

The LG membership announcement comes during this week’s Intel Developer Forum(R) in Seoul, Korea and coincides with the announcement in Japan that Texas Instruments has also joined the HomePlug Board of Directors. The addition of TI and LG to the Alliance’s leadership team is expected to influence the extended capabilities of digital connectivity in home appliances and next generation electronics.

The HomePlug Alliance’s family of standards embraces several focus areas: HomePlug 1.0 + AV (in-home connectivity, including digital home and consumer electronics applications); HomePlug BPL (to-the-home, Broadband-over-Powerline applications); and HomePlug Command and Control (Home Automation applications).
