Personal care appliance OEM Helen of Troy Limited (El Paso, Texas, U.S.) said today it acquired the intellectual property rights to Vessel, Inc.'s rechargeable lighting products. The transaction is effective immediately and includes all patents and trademarks related to the rechargeable lighting products. The products will be sold by Helen of Troy subsidiary OXO International.

The current line of Vessel rechargeable lighting has been available since 2002 and include six lighting products offered under the names Candela(R), Candela(R) Pro, Candeloo(TM), Guardian(R), Luau(TM), and Companion(TM). OXO International President Alex Lee describes the products as, "A safer, lower maintenance, and over time, lower cost alternative to candles."

As part of the acquisition agreement, Vessel will work closely with OXO to design additional rechargeable lighting products. OXO anticipates launching an updated line of products under the OXO brand in the spring of 2007. Until then, Vessel will continue to supply its existing retail and distribution customers.

Indications are that Vessel may end up operating as an OXO design department. Vessel describes itself as a design-driven product development and retail company, and Vessel co-founder Duane Smith said that, "In addition to working with OXO to develop lighting items, we'll continue to explore exciting new product areas."
