Freedom Shopping LLC (Hickory, NC, U.S.) received the Kiosk Excellence Award for Best New Innovation at the 2007 KioskCom Self-Service Expo.  The kiosk allows any kind of merchandise to be sold in an unstaffed retail facility.

KioskCom awarded Freedom Shopping for the Freedom Shopping Kiosk, a compact, wall-mounted, self-checkout kiosk that automatically detects radio frequency identification (RFID).  The customer simply approaches the kiosk and is walked through the transaction by voice instructions. The unit is ideal for vendors who wish to install speedy checkout without the need for security features. The system accepts all forms of payment and is being used in food service, hospitality, and other retail venues in the U.S. and Australia.

"The Freedom Shopping System is the only active, item-level RFID kiosk system in the world,” said Lawrence Dvorchik, KioskCom’s general manager.

The unmanned system still offers customer service with a Live Help capability to connect to a customer service option.  The payment system on the unit includes a Series 2000 bill acceptor from MEI (West Chester, PA, U.S.).
