The HomeRemote home control system from Hawking Technologies, Inc. (Irvine, CA, U.S.) began shipping to retail in the U.S. last month. The system is designed to be an affordable, easy system that lets users control household appliances and lighting while at-home and from anywhere in the world via a standard Internet web browser or mobile phone. The system also allows users to monitor their home with live video from the systems' video cameras.

The system consists of an Internet gateway and a handheld remote control for convenient, in-home control of lighting and appliances. The system uses Z-wave technology, a wireless standard that enables compatibility with a selection of accessory devices, including lighting and climate controls, video cameras for monitoring and security, garage door openers, and other devices. With the addition of motion detectors and sensors, users can receive email or text messages when home security devices are triggered.

The basic package, which includes the gateway plus remote control, has suggested retail price of US$230.
