A new Web site, freeRandD.com, enables companies needing research and development activities to connect with university students.
Web site founders say that about 6 million companies, ranging from small startups to government agencies to non-profits, struggle to find the funds and staff for all their R&D projects. At the same time, more than 2 million university seniors and graduate students are in school fall, many of them looking for a capstone project and work experience that will help them land their all-important first job.
A company can now post an R&D project on the Web site, including projects in engineering, businesses, graphic arts, behavioral and medical sciences and others.
University students can post their biography. The Web site allows users to search through listings according to field of study.
There are no costs for students or companies to view and respond to listings. Posting will be free until the start of 2007, when posting will be $40 for students and $150 for companies.
