Whirlpool Corp. and UK-based floor care appliances maker Dyson Technology Ltd. settled a lawsuit brought by Dyson against Whirlpool's Maytag business, according to a report from the Detroit Free Press. Dyson initiated the legal action in Delaware in 2005, alleging patent infringement and false advertising on the part of Maytag's Hoover floor care business. Since that time, Whirlpool acquired Maytag and sold the Hoover business to Hong Kong-based Techtronic Industries. The Detroit Free Press reported that the settlement was reached after testimony began in court May 29 but before closing arguments began. Terms of the settlement were confidential.
