Perlos Corp., a Helsinki, Finland-based, worldwide product design and manufacturing supplier of molded parts for telecommunications and electronics OEMs, signed an agreement with product decorating supplier Serigraph Inc. to establish a factory-in-factory operation at Perlos' plant in Guangzhou, China.

The new facility will give Perlos in-mold labeling (IML) capabilities for mobile phone handsets. Serigraph (West Bend, Wisconsin, U.S.) will print and form graphic parts that are inserted into a Perlos molding tool before hot resin is injected.  Several aesthetic and tactile differences can be achieved with the process that are not possible with post-mold decorating.

"IML is a steadily growing handset technology, and this unique factory-in-factory concept will supply us with a very competitive manufacturing process," said Timo Seppa, chief technology officer for Perlos.

The new facility will be operating by the end of the year.
