Indian appliance maker Godrej and Boyce is planning to double its frost-free refrigerator manufacturing capacity by augmenting its plant in Shirwal near Pune with an investment of around Rs 100 crore. "We already have refrigerator manufacturing capacity near Pune. We are planning to double our existing frost-free capacity from 3.5 lakh units to seven lakh units," said George Menezes, Chief Operating Officer, Appliance Division.

The investment will be made through internal accrual and the new unit at the company's existing set up at Shirwal will be operational in 2007.

Apart from refrigerators, the Shirwal facility manufactures washing machines. The company has another facility at Mohali for the manufacture of DC (direct cool) refrigerators. (HinduBusinessLine)
