Slovenian home appliance maker Gorenje said it will start construction of a technological and logistical center for manufacturing kitchen furniture in Central Europe, in the Slovenian city of Maribor. Gorenje already produces about 500,000 kitchen component parts in the city, most of them sold on the EU markets.

The new Maribor factory will absorb kitchen cabinet manufacturing from the Gorenje Kuechen GmbH Freistadt factory in Austria.  Gorenje said the Freistadt plant was non-profitable and indicated more that the Maribor plant would be a more efficient, economical manufacturing base.

The decision to establish a central logistic center Maribor was based on the need for uniform development, the increased technological complexity of products and the need to assure higher cost-effectiveness supported by a new market approach. This new market approach is leading it to search for synergies between kitchen furniture and domestic appliances.
