Samsung India launched nine new refrigerator models on Saturday, including the world's first "Quatro Cooling Refrigerator." The RM-25DGSH has four compartments, each controlled and cooled individually by its own evaporator and fan. This helps prevent mixing of food odors and maintain high internal humidity.
"Refrigerators are the growth engines for our home appliance business this year," said R. Zutshi, Dy. Managing Director, Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd., at the product launch.
Samsung said it was the first appliance maker to introduce a 4 Star-rated, frost-free refrigerator in the Indian market in January 2007, ahead of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) guidelines. Samsung said it is the market leader in the segment of frost-free refrigerators, 350 liters and over, and intends to consolidate its position by launching three feature-rich models in size of 375 l, 400 l and 704 l.
With the introduction of more frost-free refrigerator models, Samsung now offers 42 frost-free models.
"We are expecting the frost-free refrigerators to contribute 45 percent by volume to our total refrigerator sales this year," said Pradeep Tognatta, director of sales, Samsung India. "In addition to strengthening our refrigerator product offering, we are also looking at expanding our refrigerator channel by 25 percent this year and expect to notch up an 18 percent market share in refrigerators."
