Consumer electronics maker Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd said it signed a licensing agreement with chip interface designer Rambus Inc., according to the AP.
The licensing agreement spans 5 years, and has an effective date of Oct. 1, 2005. Under the agreement, Matsushita will license Rambus' patents for SDRAM (synchronous dynamic random access memory) and DDR (double data rate) SDRAM memory controllers. Royalty payments to Rambus will be based upon the shipments of the controllers.
The new agreement builds upon a previous agreement Matsushita signed with Rambus in 2004 to use two other memory interface designs.
