The Consumer Electronics Association's (CEA) R6 Mobile Electronics Committee is working to create a new serial protocol standard for its portable device connector that builds upon the Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) network. Device connectivity in the vehicle remains a key issue for CEA and interested parties are encouraged to participate in these standards activities.

The standard, CEA-2017.1, Serial Communication Protocol for Portable Electronics Devices, will define a serial communications protocol that enables command and control communications between portable electronic devices and accessories attached to those devices and builds upon functions provided by the MOST network. It is meant to be used in conjunction with another standard under development in R6, CEA-2017, Common Interconnection for Portable Media Players.
